Four days in the books and I am already getting the hang of inputting new members into the Front Desk HQ system. Although the ideal scenario is to sign at least 2 new members up a day, this seems to be a hard task for GSP. With many CrossFit boxes in the area everyone is competing with one other for the best rate and best coaches. Therefore, gaining new members n a rapid fashion over the last few months seems to be hard, as per Val. However, new marketing strategies will be discussed within the next few weeks to help change this trend and increase the number of new members. Today was a quite day since we sent out a bunch of emails last week and on Saturday Val and I discussed their business. Originally, CrossFit GSP had three owners, but one of them has not been around so I inquired why. In asking why Val explained that there are technically four parties who have invested into the business. Val and Darren (who happen to be husband and wife) have 34% each of the business in addition their other partner. In order to help fund the business at the start they and a small party help invest into the business. However, the third owner no longer wanted to be involved so they have been trying to handle the legality of removing him from the business. I didn't want to pry regarding their business strategies, mindset and how they were going to handle removing the third party so I left it as is.
All Val could share with me is that they would make sure it wouldn't affect the members and that everything would be handled behind the scene. She did mention to me that if I were to ever open up my own CrossFit Box or business to make sure all parties job descriptions are identified. In addition to dividing the business profit in a more reasonable fashion, meaning, making sure the job description and responsibilities matches the individuals percentage. On a side not, through out the day only a few phone calls came through which both Val and I thought was a little strange, but she mentioned that there are some days where the phone doesn't ring. All in all for being a slow day I did learn a little something about business strategies when it comes to ownership and partner ship.
