Having today as my first solo day and first week acting as the assistant operations manager, I was a little nervous and showed up about 15 minutes earlier then I needed to. The box was quiet and no one was working out so I took advantage of the quote time to walk around and clean up any garbage that may have been lying around or weights that were not put back properly. Having a tidy looking work out area is more welcoming and creates a more comfortable environment. There were a few members who came in to utilize the open gym time before the last scheduled WOD (work out of the day). While members were training I took it upon myself to shuffle through any of the liability waiver forms and to continue making follow up emails. These follow up emails have great potential in capturing new members and letting people know we truly care and are dedicated in making sure they are getting the best work out and environment as possible. Val was right, Fridays are super slow and there is not much to do other then house keeping tasks and follow ups.
Before the end of the day, Val and I sat down to discuss some of my short and long term goals. The short term goals discussed included my personal goals for the time spent at my mentorship that will lead to success further down the road. Within the CrossFit world you can't just jump right in and say I am going to be the best or own the best facility, you have to do some ground work before you can reach the Final. That is exactly what we talked about. Val gave me some insight as to how to reach my short term goals by researching the internet and diving into the operations side of GSP. As far as long term goals went, she helped focus me and made me realize how owning your own Box was not easy, but knew I could do it if thats what I wanted to do and offered to help me along the way if I ever wanted her help.
